| Cabo San Lucas Mexico is a small city at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula at 22.88° North, 109.90° West, in the municipality of Los Cabos in the state of Baja California Sur, Mexico. As of 2003, the population of Cabo San Lucas was some 40,000 people. The bay of Cabo San Lucas, at the southernmost tip of Baja, was once a base for pirate ships waiting to pounce on Spanish treasure ships. Even fifteen years ago, Cabo was little more than a fishing and canning village occasionally visited by adventurous sports fishermen with the means to sail in or fly down, but Cabo San Lucas quickly earned a reputation for the marlin that could be caught in Cabo, and the once-quiet place found itself inundated with fishermen in search of El Marlin Azul.
